British woman walks off with Libyan crown
Libya crowns its first beauty pageant ever for Miss Internet to British model/actor Lucy Layton. The competition, which consisted of 25 contestant visiting Libya for 11 days representing countries from all around the world, was a first of its kind to ever take place in Libya.

According to the London-based daily, Al Sharq Al Awsat, millions of people across the Internet voted for the contestants rather than judges. The huge event, which was attended by more than 300 guests, took place at the Mahary Hotel in Tripoli Libya.

Participants appeared in decent traditional dress by Italian designer Roberto Cavelli.
The designer came up with revolutionary designs inspired by the military suits in Libya in addition to other designs, portraying images of the Libyan president. No protests met the event, in stark contrast to the Miss World competition to be held in Nigeria next month.

The Digswell Hertfordshire, twenty-year-old Lucy Layton, was happy to walk off with the crown of the pageant along with the grand prize of sixty thousand dollars.

Businessman Amr Harfoush organized the grand event in cooperation with several private sector parties in Libya. The son of Libyan President, Saiful Islam al Gaddafi, backed the idea of organizing the second Miss Internet event, saying that he welcomed any step toward open-mindedness taking into consideration Islamic teachings and traditions. – Albawaba.com
